Explore and Experiment - Value Communication

The role of interior design in retail is to communicate the perceived value of a brand's product or service through the design of a carefully constructed environment.

The project brief

To identify and combine two distinct brands from different retail sectors to form a new and unique venture. Your solution should maintain or expand on the established aesthetic of the chosen brands, but it is essential that the design represents the values of both. The final design will be no bigger than 16 square meters in total area and should allow for seasonal change through the use of 2D branding that can be responsibly produced and disposed of.

Creating a self-contained concession within a larger retailer will allow the design to be inventive and expressive in my interpretation of the brands whilst exploring the relationship of branding and identity. The representing of the different values associated with these brands will form an integral part of developing a 3D spatial language that should inform all aspects of the design. To understand and respect the established values of the brands, when researching consider; the target markets, communication strategies and the design of the existing retail environments.

- Research Summary; including a visual analysis of thw chosen brands product or service -Mood and Message; including user group studies, and evidence of 3D ideas development -Rendered (either by hand or digitally) plan, section and elevation drawings at 1:50
-Scale (white) model at 1:20 (constructed from scale appropriate materials
